As a small batch vineyard, our emphasis is on quality, not quantity. We produce a maximum of 8,000 bottles a year with about 6,500 of Syrah and 1,500 of Chardonnay. Only the best quality grapes are hand-picked, processed at Te Rere’s own winery, stored in French Oak barrels on site for approximately 12 months and then carefully stored for at least two years before selling. The wines have unique profiles of concentrated fruits and French Oak barrel aromas.

From preserving the hand-pruning process to the French cork wax pouring method, Te Rere has the utmost respect for tradition, a focus on healthy hand-picked vines, the spirit of the land, the environment and ultimately the finest selection for our most discerning drinkers.

Our artisan wine making combined with the high-quality grapes and award-winning winemaker have resulted in exceptional wine.

REGION

Vine growing was introduced at Waiheke in the early 1980s as a premium wine region for the production of high-quality red wines based on Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot.  Waiheke Island over the years has developed its varietals to include Chardonnay, Syrah, Montepulciano, Pinot Gris, Malbec, Petit, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, Verdot and Viognier.

Waiheke Island’s climate and grape growing is strongly influenced by the Hauraki Gulf. The ocean acts as both a fan and insulator allowing sea breezes to control rising temperatures in mid-summer with the falling temperatures at night. These moderate temperatures extend longer into the early autumn ripening period of March and April, allowing later varieties to ripen fully over an extended period.

SYRAH

The Syrah has been planted on the Western side of Waiheke Island, the climate is warm and varied. The slightly breezy and moderately warm site results in elegance, complexity and balance in the wines. The vines are planted at a relatively high density resulting in a lower per-vine grape yield which results in improved wine concentration, depth of flavour and wine aging ability.

CHARDONNAY

The Chardonnay vines are planted on a unique free-draining soil. This land was infilled from the soil where massive earthworks occurred during the construction of Te Rere Estate. This has resulted in very special soil conditions which most years create an absolutely superb Chardonnay. The vines are North West facing with a slight breeze so create the perfect growing conditions.
