te rere VINEYARD

A boutique, family-owned vineyard nestled in a sheltered valley in Church Bay, Waiheke Island. Its purpose is to produce small volumes of premium wines through sustainable viticulture and artisan winemaking. Award-winning winemaker Michael Wood produces high-quality wine via very low-yielding crops to create immaculate fruit, then allowing, as much as possible, for nature to take its course in the winery.

Te Rere produces a range of different varietals - a dry Pinot Gris, superb rich and complex Chardonnay, and a deep rich Reserve Syrah. Most of our wines have received accolades, with the Chardonnay and Reserve Syrah receiving 4.5 and 5 stars from Michael Cooper. Te Rere wines prove that small-production wines from a micro-site vineyard can still pack an impressive punch.

TE RERE WINE REVIEWS BY CAM DOUGLAS

2020 Te Rere Reserve Chardonnay

*93 POINTS - EXCELLENT*

There’s a distinctive richness and personality to the bouquet with a mix of fresh stone fruits and grapefruit then a lees and sweet nut quality, spices of new barrel and some wood smoke. Plenty of weight and intensity as the wine touches the palate, flavours of apples and peach, white flesh stone fruit and brazil-nut butter quality. The oak stands out as the wine opens out on the palate and warms up - which will settle over time, tannins and acidity measure in well. Ideal drinking from late 2024 through 2030.

2020 Te Rere Motukaha Reserve Syrah

*93 POINTS - EXCELLENT*

Great concentration of colour with a core of purple and ruby and pinkish rim, leading to a bouquet of dark plums and baked raspberry. Complexity and youthful power, a core concentration driven by fruit and barrel with a varietal drive. There’s also a smoky iron sand quality adding further complexity. Dry on the palate with a firm mouthfeel, there’s a mix of ripe and tart red berry fruit flavours, plenty of tannins and a back bone of acidity. Best drinking from 2025 through 2031+.
